Evolution
One of the more interesting things about pokemon is that they can evolve to become different and stronger pokemon. No one is completely sure how evolution works, but many theories have been published. At PokeMUSH, we have an organized system to allow for pokemon to evolve.
As in the show, pokemon can evolve in a multitude of ways. A few pokemon evolve only by exposure to an Evolution Stone, although the Stones are both rare and expensive, and the pokemon must agree to its use for it to have any effect. Pokemon which don't evolve by a Stone may evolve through fighting (gaining experience) or may evolve through special circumstances. For example, a pokemon might evolve to do something it couldn't do as its previous form, such as save its trainer or fight off an attacker too tough for the smaller form. However, it's important to keep in mind that evolutions are relatively rare.
In the Pokemon games, certain species of pokemon need to be traded, with or without holding a certain item. These situations will be handled as normal evolutions on the MUSH, ie. gaining experience. The only exception to this rule will be Porygon evolving into Porygon2, in which case the 'upgrade' must be performed by SilphCo. If you have a Porygon and wish to evolve it, please contact a staffer.
At PokeMUSH, we will be using an application system and RP test to evolve a pokemon. Please see the Evolution Application in 'news evolution app'.
For the rules involved with applying for an evolution, please see 'news evolution rules'.
If you wish to evolve a Caterpie or a Weedle, please see 'news evolution special case'.
Evolution Rules
There are several important OOC and IC rules to keep in mind when requesting
an evolution for a pokemon.
- You may only send in one request for an evolution per month. The new month begins on the first. The one per month restriction is on a per-player basis, not per-character.
- There are no re-applications within a month. If an application is turned down, you must wait until the next month to attempt another one.
- Please do not ask a staff member if you have sent an application this month. It is your responsibility to keep track of when you apply.
- Unlike character applications, replies to evolution apps can take up to a week (however usually we will get back to you in a few days). Bugging the staff for a faster reply will get your application rejected.
- Please send the application in plain text format in the body of the email. No attachments or word processor formatting is allowed.
- If an owned Pokeplayer is requesting an evolution, it counts as the monthly request for both Pokeplayer and owner. Only the Pokeplayer needs to send the application, however. Make sure to confer with your owner before applying.
- Remember that Evolution Stones are both rare and very expensive. The odds of just finding one lying about are very, very low. The Fire, Thunder, Water, and Leaf Stones are found only in Stone Town, from where they are sent out to certain large stores (such as the Celadon Department Store) or sold in Stone Town itself. Moon and Sun Stones are even more rare, and are found only on occasion in places like deep within Mount Moon. Also, a pokemon must want to evolve for an Evolution Stone to take any effect.
- A pokemon which has been mistreated or battled to exhaustion repeatedly is highly unlikely to evolve. Similarly, a healthy, well-treated pokemon has a higher chance of evolving than one kept inside the computer for long periods of time.
- The longer a pokemon has been with its trainer, the more likely it is to evolve. Starter pokemon are the most likely to evolve first.
- Evolving to an intermediate form is easier to pass than evolving to a final form. For example, it's much more likely that an evolution from Charmander to Charmeleon is approved over an evolution from Cubone to Marowak.
- Common pokemon are more likely to be approved to evolve than rare pokemon.
- Pokemon which require an Evolution Stone will be harder to evolve.
- The applications will be judged by quality of the application, creativity of the ideas, and responsibility of the player.
- Once the evolution application is approved, the player must RP out the actual evolution. In order to receive final approval, a staff member must be present to judge the RP. *Do not pester staff members to judge.* If a player's application is approved, they will be approached by a staff member.
- Decisions of the staff are final.
Special Cases in Evolutions
Because Caterpies and Weedles remain at their second level of evolution only 7-10 days, Butterfrees and Beedrills will be considered a second level evolution (six hits) and thus no harder to apply for than any other once-evolved pokemon. Though Metapods and Kukunas should not be used in battle, if the case ever came up they would have four hits.
