Rules
To avoid problems before they happen, we've laid out some ground rules that everyone (staff and player alike) will have to agree to follow. The goals of them are to keep the MUSH as a whole working smoothly, and to keep as many people as possible having fun.
All of the rules files listed below should be read and understood. If you have a question, please page a staff member and ask. If you log onto Pokemon Dreams, then you are agreeing to follow them. In real life as well as here, not knowing the rules is not an excuse for breaking them.
We operate on a three strikes rule. As the saying goes, 'three strikes and you're out'. You, the player will be banned from the MUSH, not any one character you run. All of them. In general, warnings will be given before
strikes are, but if you work really hard at it you can negate that.
We hope never to have to issue strikes, but we have to be realistic. Treat the staff and your fellow players with respect and you should have no problems here. Please have a good time being IC and RPing at Pokemon Dreams, but first be sure to read all of the following:
'news general rules', 'news rules tech', 'news rules pokemon',
'news rules humans', 'news rules psychics', and 'news rules stealing'.
General Rules
- Remain true to your character. If you play a peace lovin' flower child, please don't go out and kick the first puppy you see.
- Spying is not just rude, it's wrong. Do not use puppets to spy.
- On consent: We have a 'Limited Consent' system in place here. If someone
wants to kill you, they need to ask your permission first. If they want
to poke your eye out with a stick, they must ask. But, if you run naked
into the Team Rocket HQ armed only with a string of Christmas lights,
do not expect the need for consent to protect you. The Rockets will likely
kill you, and OOCly they would be within their rights. Note: If you apply for a Rocket, you are giving consent to possibly being caught at some point. This will not be common, but given their activities, at some point, someone is going to slip up.
- It is polite to page and ask before you enter a scene made up of a small group of people (two or three).
- This is a set-in-stone rule, anyone who breaks it will be dealt with
harshly: There will be *NO* TinySex (TS) in public rooms. What's a public
room? Any room that anyone can walk into (any one with a door leading
into it). We can't stop you from doing things "behind closed doors", but
because of our theme we have minors here.
- Another set-in-stone rule is that you may not own one of your own PokePlayer alts nor may you trade pokemon between alts. We track these things and this is a strike-worthy offense. If this becomes a problem, we may institute a rule disallowing role-playing in a scene with more than one of your characters.
Tech Rules
See our
technology page for details, but here is a run down:
- Weapons: Only Pokeforce and Team Rocket members are allowed to own or carry guns. Remember, there are IC consequence to using weapons, and your character knows it. TR should use them with care. (And keep in mind you will usually need consent before shooting someone.)
- No one may ICly own or OOCly create an "official vehicle" (fire truck, ambulance). If you need one for a scene, page a staffer.
Pokemon and PokePlayer Rules
Pokemon and PokePlayer Rules
The basic points on the pokemon themselves. What they can and cannot do, as well as a few specific things that must be addressed on PokePlayers.
- Attacking people with pokemon, while not prohibited completely by the MUSH, is strongly frowned upon by the Pokemon League, as well as by everyone else in normal society. At Pokemon Dreams, we neither advocate nor condone this practice, but it will have IC effects. Save in self defense, anyone attacking any human with a pokemon, if reported, is in deep poopy. Team Rocket is no exception to this, although they have the advantage of their group's backing. Non-Rocket trainers are much more likely to be caught. *If caught, you can lose your pokemon!*
- Pokemon may not own vehicles.
- Discolorations of pokemon, because they would be rare on the show, are considered rare here. You may apply for one as a starter with an excellent application, or you may on occasion find a puppet that is noted as having a special color. Do not make a pokemon an unusual color except in these circumstances, and then only in the coloration that has been approved.
- General guidelines for PokePlayers:
- Discolorations of pokemon, because they would be rare on the show, are
considered rare here. You must ask before making or owning a pokemon in
any color but its usual one.
- Pokeplayers may be ICly released at any time by their trainers.
- A pokeplayer may leave a trainer at any time.
- If both PokePlayer and trainer wish to part ways, contact a wizard and
it will be handled.
- Unlike puppets, PokePlayers have real people running them. Get their consent before using them when they're not logged on, or do not use them. Also, a PokePlayer may not be OOCly forced to evolve, they must agree.
- If you own a Ditto, wish to play one, or ever considered owning one,
please see our Ditto page.
Human Rules
- Injuries-Minor injuries can be treated at the local pokecenter, but for major booboos you have to be sent to the hospital in Viridian or Saffron. Major injuries require a stay of at least three days. (Remember a RL day = an IC one.)
Minor injuries would include things like the common cold, a sore throat, or a broken finger or toe. Major ones would include being shot anywhere, being stabbed with a knife, getting a toe cut off, and the like.
- Psychos-Applications for mentally unstable characters will be looked at much harder than for healthy characters. If you are entrusted to play a psychotic character, you will be watched much closer than other players; one strike may cause you to lose the character (but not be kicked off the MUSH).Psychotic characters tend to lead short, nasty, and brutish lives, but they are not banned from being applied for.
Psychic Human Rules
Let us start out by saying that psychics will be few and far between. We will be approving very few of them. Please note the following points:
- Psychics are, of course, bound by all consensual RP rules.
- Only high level psychics will be able to do ultra-phenomenal things. Remember, the biggest achievement most of them could attest to in the show was bend spoons, and guess what card another person was holding. By no means should someone whose command of psychic abilities is to make egg sized objects float be able to throw people around with mental abilities.
- Psychic pokemon may bestow upon their owners limited psychic abilities, including the following:
- Psychic pokemon give their owners the ability to understand all pokemon at
any level (if the pokemon is out of its pokeball).
- If they have the teleport ability, they may teleport themselves and the
pokemon away to safety (though takes two "rounds" of RP to do).
- You do not need to be a psychic to own a psychic pokemon.
- Psychic pokemon have a *limited* ability to read human minds, and can
sometimes be used as a lie detector of sorts. This ability gets stronger the higher level they are.
Stealing Rules
It's IC for certain characters to try and steal stuff. Team Rocket, for example, makes a career out of stealing things. As stated in the general rules, consent will usually have to be given before a pokemon can be stolen from you. However, if you are a Rocket and run into Pokeforce's HQ and try to use your Magikarp to break out your best friend, it's darned likely not only that you will end up in jail as well, but you'll never see your fishy friend again.
