Speeding: What is it?
Speeding is cheating. Speeding is acting OOCly on the IC grid. Think of our IC world as RL: Could you move from New York to San Francisco in under two minutes? No. So should you fly from one city to another as fast as you can type the exit names? No. Why? Because that is not IC.
In the interest of balancing realism vs. fun, the staff here has settled on a wait of 60 seconds between room moves when hunting puppets. There are exceptions to this (see further below: bus station/ferry, and when it's okay to speed), Remember, this is a roleplaying game. We're all here to RP, not run around as fast as you can and snatch up puppets.
In addition, you are allowed to hunt from one city to a neighboring city, and the route between and the area around those cities. For example, if you choose Celadon City and Fuschia City, you may hunt along the cycling road, and in the areas around Celadon and Fuschia. Remember, both cities must be connected directly.
Speeding: What will happen if I speed?
That depends. If this is your first day on the MUSH we'll probably just tell you to go +ooc and read the news files and posts on the subject of speeding, but if you're someone who should know better, or if we've told you not to speed before, then we might start handing out punishments such as stopping you from catching pokemon or entering tournaments for a certain amount of time.
Speeding: Is there an easy way to make sure I'm not speeding?
Yes! Using the @wait command. Just do: '@wait 60=(exit name you want to move through)' . When the 60 seconds are up, it'll move you on its own.
Speeding: Is it ever okay to speed?
Yes. Pokeplayers never have to worry about speeding, same for human characters who either cannot catch, have caught for the week, or are just headed somewhere for RP. Please still be polite! If you cross through a room with people in it, pose passing through. Remember, the staff will know if you're speeding, so don't claim you were headed to a RP scene and you just 'happened' to stumble across a puppet...
Speeding: I waited a full 60 seconds between rooms, why are you still yelling at me?!
Remember what we started out saying in this post: We're doing this to make things more IC. Can you go from Boston to Seattle by foot or bike in an hour? No. So is it reasonable for you to go from Gringy to Cinnabar in an hour, even if you waited 60 seconds between rooms? Nope. Remember, think ICly! Think about Ash in the show. It took him days to move from city to city. We're not asking you to wait that long, but to move more than two cities in a day is unreasonable and a staff member can tell you to go back into the area you were in.
Special rooms: Bus station and Ferry
This one is a guideline, not a set-in-stone rule. Because busses and ferries are not rocket-powered, we recommend that you pause five minutes in this room (300 seconds, if using @wait). We won't smite you if you only wait one minute, but again, think about how IC that would be. Ferries and busses are slow, the latter making many stops along the way.
Speeding: Why is the staff here making us wait? That's so mean!
Simple answer: We're doing it to make the MUSH a better place. As mentioned before, this is not a mud. RP is king here. We're striving for a tight theme, quality RP, and mature players. If your only goal here is to run around and nab puppets, you're probably in the wrong place. We're trying to offer the best RP within the Pokemon theme that is available on the Internet. Does it suck to have to follow the rules? Sometimes. However, in the end we hope you'll agree that it makes Pokemon Dreams a better place.
It is not our goal to deny you puppets, we put out literally hundreds a week in hopes that everyone will eventually end up with a few within their IC reach. The staff of this MUSH hopes that you will agree the speeding rules are reasonable, and that the end result is worth it.
